Negotiating with Objects
A different perspective in designing product interactions
People find comfort in negotiating for concessions with objects around them. We hit torchlights for their last bits of power or cover our ears when music is too loud. This project aims to introduce a different perspective in designing product interactions.

Challenges
From observations on human gestures relating to the desire for "Getting more". This project explores new possibilities of product interactions with everyday objects, thereby enhancing the user experience and engagement.
Process
Includes conducting observations on gestures and concept fan mapping. We then conduct user testing and collect feedback to identify the form of the product and affordance.

Opportunity
Sprint development delays caused rushed decisions, resulting in unclear user story requirements. This confusion and misalignment among team members resulted in frequent scope changes and compromised design consistency.

Inspiration
Using a mood board to curated and identify the form and affordance of the gestures & object
By organising visual cues and design elements, the mood board guides the creative process, ensuring that the gestures and objects not only look cohesive but also encourage natural and effective user interactions.

Prototyping
By leveraging rapid prototyping tools like CNC machining and 3D printing, I explored various forms to refine and enhance the design.
Focusing on the affordance to discover forms that resonated best with the test users.

Testing
Using mockups to let users explore and interact with different form variations.
Using rapid prototype tools such as CNC machining and 3D printing, the form exploration was conducted to refine the design. Focusing on the affordance, I wanted to find out which forms resonate well with the test users.

Prototyping
The technical feasibility of the concept was evaluated by taking the electronics into consideration.
To ensure the design was feasible, I sourced suitable components like sensors and microcontroller kits, carefully considering their intended functions. By working hands-on with the circuit, I was able to assess both the technical feasibility and idea viability of the designs.

Hitting the lamp to increase its brightness.
When the lamp is turned on, it starts of in low-powered light settings. When lighting is insufficient, the user would be able to hit on the device to increase its brightness.

Fanning the scent diffuser to dispense its fragrance.
With the motion of fanning, the intensity would be increased to a stronger scent, just as the person wants the scent to be more effective.
